Treatment Week #1

1,550 Trees and Countless Memories: Celebrating Our First Week of Treatment

During our first week of HWA treatment at Asitu’lisk, we achieved something truly remarkable. Against all odds and expectations, we managed to save approximately 1,550 trees! This monumental feat was not the result of a single effort, but the collective dedication of our incredible volunteers.

From the entire team at Ulnooweg and Community Forests International, including Chris, Jen, Dani, and many others – we extend our deepest gratitude. The commitment each volunteer showcased, braving thunderstorms, relentless rain, sweltering heat, and the ever-persistent mosquitos, was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Your positive attitudes and relentless drive turned what could have been grueling days into memorable experiences. It felt less like work and more like a shared adventure, united in our mission to protect the delicate old-growth hemlocks.

But let’s not rest on our laurels just yet. We have more work ahead of us. Two additional weeks are lined up to continue our mission at Asitu’lisk. We invite you to sign up here for the upcoming sessions from October 12-18 and November 20-26. We are eager to lead the charge once more and hope to see both familiar and new faces joining us.

One of our volunteers beautifully encapsulated the spirit of our efforts:

“Asitu’l~sk is this magical place, a space with the energy of continuous healing. Helping all these hemlocks feels so rewarding, as the forest gives so much back to us. I arrived at Asitu’l~sk with an emotionally spent spirit, but left like I could walk on water. I mean…who healed who, really??”

Barb sylvester, volunteer

This sentiment resonates deeply with all of us. Asitu’lisk is not just a place; it’s an experience, a healer, and a testament to the power of community. As we look back on this week, we’re filled with gratitude, pride, and anticipation for the journey ahead.
